The Federal Communications Commission United States said in March that the use of VoIP among consumers and businesses grew 21% in one year and that the use of the traditional line fell 8%.

Skype, which Microsoft bought last month for 8.5 billion dollars, has 150 million users, although their incomes are lower. According to data from Point Topic at the end of 2010 Skype was about nine million users pay, each of which generated an average of eight dollars a month.
